About Jake Stoobs
I've been a full-time creative (as well as working other jobs to keep myself alive) since the fall of 2021 when I started and completed my first major writing project, a gay horror screenplay. I write almost every day and in that time have finished 7 screenplays and 7 original TV pilots, among other writing projects (mostly featuring queer people). However, one year ago I pivoted into writing full-length novels and have found that to be a much better medium for me. Before that, I went to school for / worked in the marketing field.
After querying my first novel (Single, Gay, and Thriving!) to agents and quickly giving up upon learning it was not what traditional publishers would be looking for, I set out to write a basic gay romance novel that could get me an agent. Unfortunately I cannot do anything the easy way, because my second novel ended up turning into the 135,000+ word queer epic love story that is What Happens in Cerulean County... Upon querying this one I just as quickly learned that as a romance novel, it was much too long for traditional publication.
One of the main things I heard when querying was that the agent could not see themselves "championing my work." Thus I realized that life is much too short, and that I have to be my own champion, setting me off on my self-publishing journey which has finally led me here.
I'm currently based in L.A. where I live with my amazing boyfriend and our beautiful child (dog). Thank you for taking the time to read any of my work. I would love to one day have writing be my full-time career, so I appreciate any support very much.
